Sector Update: Energy Energy

Energy shares traded generally flat in pre-market trade Friday as crude oil futures were up.

Light, sweet crude oil for July delivery was up 0.32% at $102.81 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 0.10% at $2.88 per gallon while natural gas was down 0.09% at $4.70 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was up 0.32% at $37.67. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was up 0.54% at $26.03.

In other energy news, Piedmont Natural Gas Company ( PNY ) has announced fiscal Q2 EPS of $.80, up from $.74 per diluted share for fiscal Q2 2013 and beating analyst estimates of $0.75. Total operating revenue of $462.24 million was up from $399.41 million in fiscal Q2 2013 and beat analyst projections of $427.95 million.

PNY was steady pre-market at $36.23 with a 52-week range of $31.56 to $36.55.
