Sector Update: Energy

Energy shares were generally flat in pre-market trade Tuesday as crude oil futures were lower.

Light, sweet crude oil for October delivery was down 0.38% at $92.54 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.33% to $2.73 per gallon while natural gas was down 1.4% at $3.88 British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was up 0.17% at $34.62. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 1.2% at $21.15.

In other energy news, Spectra Energy Corp ( SE ), Spectra Energy Partners ( SEP ) and Northeast Utilities ( NU ) have announced plans to partner on the $3 billion Access Northeast gas pipeline expansion project, designed to meet growing demand for natural gas in New England.

Shares of SE were at $40.10 within a 52-week range of $32.80 - $43.12.

Shares of SEP were at $52.81 within a 52-week range of $40.75 - $57.69.

Shares of NU were at $44.62 within a 52-week range of $40.17 - $47.60.
