Sector Update: Energy

Energy shares were generally flat in pre-market trade Wednesday as crude oil futures were generally flat.

Light, sweet crude oil for October delivery was up 0.16% at $92.90 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 0.15% at $2.80 per gallon while natural gas was down 0.15% at $3.98 British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was flat at $34.62. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 0.7% at $21.50.

In other energy news, SunEdison ( SUNE ) shares rose pre-market Wednesday, after the solar-technology company said technology giant Google ( GOOG ) agreed to provide $145 million in equity financing for its Regulus solar plant.

When completed, the Regulus solar project will be SunEdison's largest developed and constructed project in North America. Located in Kern County, California, the Regulus plant--a 737-acre, 82 megawatt DC solar photovoltaic power plant--will begin operation later this year, and will supply power to Southern California Edison (SCE.E) through a 20-year power purchase agreement, SunEdison said.
