Sector Update: Energy

Energy shares were generally higher in pre-market trading Friday, as crude-oil futures rose.

Light, sweet crude oil for September delivery was up 0.2% at $95.72 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 0.31% at $2.83 per gallon while natural gas was up 0.3% at $3.81 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was up 0.03% at $35.12. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 2.5% at $20.90.

In other energy news, Synergy Resources ( SYRG ), a U.S. oil-and-gas company focused on exploration and production at the Denver-Julesburg Basin, said horizontal drilling operations and completions are progressing according to plan at the Wattenberg Field, and predicted Q4 production will range between 5,800 and 6,200 BOED. It expects to end the fiscal year at a production rate of between 8,000 and 9,500 BOED. In pre-market trading, SYRG shares were flat at $12.34.

Energy industry-services company Cypress Energy Partners ( CELP ) was upgraded by analysts at Robert W. Baird to an outperform investment rating from neutral. The firm also raised its price target on the stock to $27 from $24 a share.
