Energy shares were generally lower in pre-market trade Thursday as crude oil futures traded higher.

Light, sweet crude oil for May delivery was up 0.01% at $99.63 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was up 0.12% at $2.87 per gallon while natural gas was up 0.11% at $4.37 per million British thermal units.

In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was up 0.28% at $35.90. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was up 0.86% at $24.52.

In other energy news, JinkoSolar ( JKS ) announced that it has entered into RMB214.4 million (approximately US$ 39 million) loan agreement with China Development Bank (CDB) to finance two PV solar projects in Xinjiang and Gansu Provinces.

And, SM Energy Company ( SM ) said that Anthony J. Best will retire from his role as the company's Chief Executive Officer within the next 12 months. The Board of Directors intends to appoint Javan D. Ottoson, currently President and Chief Operating Officer, as the company's Chief Executive Officer.
