Energy shares were mixed in pre-market trade Tuesday while crude oil futures were trading lower.
Light, sweet crude oil for April delivery was down 0.95% at $101.84 per barrel. In other energy futures, heating oil was down 0.22% at $3.04 per gallon while natural gas was down 1.45% at $5.37 per million British thermal units.
In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) was down 1.03% at $36.41. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) was down 1.4% at $25.75.
In other energy news, Alliant Energy Corporation ( LNT ) reported Q4 results that topped the Street view and 2014 guidance that met expectations.
For Q4, earnings were $0.55 on an adjusted basis, down from $0.62 per share last year. The Street view was $0.51 per share. Revenue was $832.6 million, up from $751 million last year and ahead of expectations of $773 million.
In 2014, Alliant expects earnings of $3.25 per share to $3.55 per share, a range on par with the Street view of $3.37 per share.
