Energy shares are mixed before the open while the January crude contract is tipping lower in early trade. January crude contracts are down $0.14 to $100.22 a barrel according to the CME Group. Natural gas is tipping higher and is now trading up $0.037 to $3.58 per million British thermal units. Meanwhile, shares of Exxon Mobil ( XOM ) are down while Bloomberg reports that the oil major boosted its cost estimate for its liquefied natural gas project in Papau New Guinea by 5% to $15.7 billion. A stronger Australian dollar moved the cost up. XOM shares are down 0.2% to $80.30.
