Sector Update: Energy

Energy shares are mixed in late trading as crude futures finish below $82 a barrel. Crude oil for December delivery closed down 0.9%, or $0.75, to settle at $81.43 a barrel. In energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund ( USO ) is down 0.59% to $35.18. The United States Natural Gas ETF ( UNG ) is up 3.37% to $5.83. In late-session energy news, petroleum refiner Sunoco ( SUN ) was still lower in late trading following earlier news it said late Thursday it earned $0.22 per share in Q3, less items. That compares to the Thomson Reuters mean for $0.41. Also, Halliburton Co. ( HAL ) shares are just higher despite news the company could deal with an increased liability in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill after a panel assembled by President Obama said the contractor knew cement it mixed for BP ( BP ) wasn't stable, Bloomberg reported.
