Sector Update: Consumer Shares Higher; Costco Climbs as Comp Store Sales Rise

Consumer shares are higher in pre-bell trading while Costco Wholesale Corporation ( COST ) is up 1.4% after it reported net sales of $7.95 billion for the month of August, an increase of 7% from $7.44 billion during the similar period last year.

Comp store sales were up 4% in August.

Meanwhile, according to The Detroit News, Toyota ( TM ) is recalling nearly 234,000 vehicles in two separate recalls to address electrical problems and problems with a valve-timing system. Both could cause vehicles to stop running.

The recalls reportedly cover 133,000 2006-2010 Highlander Hybrid and 2006-2008 Lexus RX 400h vehicles.

Shares closed at $125.84.
