Sector Update: Consumer

Consumer shares are flat in pre-bell trading today.

In consumer sector news, shares of Costco ( COST ) are down 1.6% at $118.10 pre-market, but off their lows for the session so far, at $114.83, after the wholesale retailer reported Q1 earnings that fell short of analysts' forecasts.

Earnings were $0.96 per share, up from $0.95 per share last year, but below the analyst consensus for the quarter of $1.02 per share.

And, apparel retailer Children's Place Retail Stores, Inc. ( PLCE ) has been upgraded by analysts at FBR Capital to Outperform from Market Perform.

The firm also raised its price target on the stock to $62 from $54 a share.

In the pre-market session, shares of PLCE are bid higher at $52.91, within a 52-week frame of $42.21 - $58.89.
