Republican Debate Brings Record Ratings for Fox Business

Media giant, Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. 's FOXA , the Fox Business Network ("FBN") hosted the Grand Old Party's ("GOP") presidential debate which turned out to be a huge success for the company. According to Nielsen Media Research, the debate was not only watched by 13.5 million viewers but was also a premier rated program in the company's history. The ensuing debate provided a glimpse to their economic policies and viewpoints in the run-up to the presidential campaign through arguments and counter-arguments.

More than 1.4 million viewers streamed this debate online, making it the most watched livestreaming primary program in the history beating both 2015 Super Bowl on NBC and CNN debate, which registered a viewership of 1.3 million and 921,000, respectively.

FBN vs CNN vs CNBC

FBN, which registered a viewership of 13.5 million for GOP's presidential debate fell marginally shy of the CNBC which attracted 14 million viewers for the same. However, FBN was significantly behind CNN's GOP debate, which attracted 22.6 million viewers.

We believe this to be a good performance by FBN, considering that the channel was launched in 2007, which is relatively new in comparison to its competitors and is available in 82 million homes countrywide, which is 11 million short of CNBC's 93 million homes.

Bottom Line

While the debate served as a precursor to the likely changes in the framework of the government policies, it also served as a broader hint at the impending changes in the financial markets as a whole and the stock market in particular. Investors across the globe have already started to weigh the pros and cons from the high-octane political rendezvous.
