Qualcomm Historically Reverses Earnings-Driven After-Hours Trade in Next Regular Session

Qualcomm ( QCOM ) has consistently reversed its earnings-driven after-hours moves in the following day's regular session.

QCOM has recorded an after-hours gain in 23 of the quarters we've tracked, widening its direction (adding to its after-hours gains in next-day regular session trade), in 11 quarters (48% of the time), and reversing direction in 12 quarters, or 52% of the time. The stock has recorded an after-hours decline in 28 quarters, reversing direction in follow-on regular session trade in 18 quarters (64% of the time).

QCOM is due with its Q1 results in the evening session on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and analysts are expecting the company to report a profit of $1.18 per share on revenue of $6.11 billion, according to Capital IQ.

On Nov. 2, 2016, QCOM dipped 1.3% in night trade after beating Q4 expectations and setting mixed guidance for Q1. The stock narrowed its decline the next day, closing the Nov. 3 regular session down 0.2%.

On July 20, 2016, QCOM advanced 6.7% in after-hours action after topping Q3 Street estimates and setting in-line guidance for its Q4. The stock moved higher the next day, closing the July 21 regular session up 7.3%.

On April 20, 2016, QCOM declined 3.2% in evening trade after beating Q2 expectations and guiding its Q3 in line to below the analyst consensus. The stock narrowed its downside the following day, ending the April 21 regular session off 0.8%.

On Jan. 27, 2016, QCOM dipped 0.5% in after-hours trade after topping Q1 expectations and setting mixed guidance for its Q2. The stock tumbled lower the next day, closing the Jan. 28 regular session down 8.3%.

QCOM added 2.1% the night of April 21, 2004 after the company beat expectations and issued an upbeat outlook. It advanced 3.1% by the next day's closing bell.
