(Moscow)
While he and his government seem to haunt US politics like a poltergeist, Russian president Putin's insights in geopolitics are very relevant. Today he has made comments about the North Korea situation, saying that the US' sanctions against the country are pointless because Pyongyang would rather "eat grass" than give up its nuclear program. He said the US needs to focus more on diplomatic actions and less on military ones as it risks stoking a catastrophe. He said North Korea is acting rationally given how Iraq and Libya, both companies that gave up their nuclear programs, were both toppled by the US.
FINSUM : We think these comments are both insightful and very different from what you hear in US politics. The idea that Pyongyang is acting rationally is an alternative viewpoint that may help to understand how to negotiate with them, because the White House currently seems to view the country's leadership as crazy (which they may well be).
