Nordstrom’s October Comps Rise Almost 10%, Beating View; Q3 Revenue Could Miss (JWN)

Apparel retailer Nordstrom, Inc. ( JWN ) on Thursday posted better-than-expected October same-store sales, although its third quarter revenue totals could miss Wall Street's view.

The Seattle-based company reported October comparable sales gains of 9.8%, easily beating analysts' outlook for a 6.5% gain. Same-store sales, also known as comparable sales, are an important metric used to measure a retailer's performance.

JWN noted that third quarter comparable sales rose 10.7% from last year. Preliminary total net sales for the third quarter were $2.71 billion, which could miss analysts's outlook for $2.78 billion.

Nordstrom shares rose 61 cents, or +1.1%, in morning trading Thursday.
