Nintendo ( NTDOY ) announced Tuesday it has sold 10 million Switch consoles worldwide since its launch in March, despite being in short supply of the video game device over that period.
"The response from fans has been great, and we're doing our very best to satisfy demand during the holiday shopping season," Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, said in a prepared statement .
The Switch has a unique hybrid design that lets it work as a living room console and a mobile device. It retails for $299.99. Popular Switch games include Nintendo's own "Super Mario Odyssey" and "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild."
Last week, Sony ( SNE ) announced that it has sold more than 70.6 million units of its PlayStation 4 game console since its launch in November 2013.
The PS4 is the top-selling console in the current generation of game machines, followed by Microsoft 's ( MSFT ) Xbox One. Microsoft hasn't updated its cumulative sales of the Xbox One in quite some time, but analysts think it has sold about half as many units as the PS4.
