Nikkei 225 Sheds 0.08% Ahead Of U.S. Federal Reserve Policy Decision

The Nikkei 225 opened higher on Wednesday on overnight New York cues, but traded down through morning and afternoon sessions, finishing off 0.08% as traders awaited the Wednesday policy announcement of the U.S. Federal Reserve Board.

In other news, Japan mini-car maker Daihatsu said it plans with Toyota ( TM ) to manufacture cars in Thailand.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 dropped 15.23 to 19,883.52, as losing issues outnumbered winners 117 to 101.

Leading the upside on a down day were retailer Family Mart UNY (FYRTY, 8028:Tokyo), up 3.6%; followed by builder Obayashi (OBYCF, 1802:Tokyo), up 2.3% and then ceramics-and-materials outfit Kyocera (KYO, 6971:Tokyo), up 2.2%.

On the downside were tour bled industrial conglomerate Toshiba (YOSYY, 6502:Tokyo), off 5.1% and then plastics-maker Asahi Kasei (AHKSY, 3407:Tokyo), off 3.1%
