The NASA Juno mission will finally reach Jupiter .

Here are five things to know about it:

  • The $1.1 billion probe launched on August 2011 with the intent of examining Jupiter closer, focusing on the structure of the planet.
  • The NASA vessel will begin looking at the planet on July 4.
  • The brakes will be used on that day, and the probe will stop on the fifth planet of our galaxy.
  • The agency's investigators said it's a "one-shot deal," which means a lot of elements have to line up for the mission to be successful.
  • The orbiting of the ship will take place over 14 days.
