Today's economic agenda remains quiet, with only two relatively minor economic reports.
Weekly mortgage applications come out at 7 a.m. ET and crude-oil inventories follow at 10:30 a.m. ET.
The most noteworthy earnings reports come from H&R Block before the opening bell and Restoration Hardware in the afternoon.
Tomorrow is busier, with monthly retail sales and weekly jobless claims as the key items on the calendar. European industrial production also comes out early, along with natural-gas inventories and the Bank of Japan's monetary announcement in the evening. Land's End and Lululemon Athletica report before the opening bell, followed in the afternoon by Finisar.
Chinese retail sales and industrial production are scheduled for the following overnight session. Friday morning brings the producer price index and the University of Michigan's consumer-sentiment gauge.
