October natural gas prices slipped to a new 8-day low during the initial morning hours, seemingly in response to diminished tropical storm threats. The low-pressure system in the western Gulf of Mexico and slow progress with Tropical Storm Maria in the Atlantic has reduced some of the weather-premium out of the natural gas market, according to some traders. The Commitments of Traders Futures and Options report as of September 6th showed non-commercial traders were net short 171,695 contracts, an increase of 2,985. Non-commercial and nonreportable traders combined held a net short position of 137,409 contracts, an increase of 1,720 in their net short position.
