Monday Sector Leaders: Energy, Technology & Communications

In afternoon trading on Monday, Energy stocks are the best performing sector, higher by 2.5%. Within that group, Marathon Oil Corp. (Symbol: MRO) and Hess Corp (Symbol: HES) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 5.7% and 4.6%, respectively. Among energy ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLE), which is up 2.2% on the day, and down 5.74% year-to-date. Marathon Oil Corp., meanwhile, is down 3.19% year-to-date, and Hess Corp, is down 7.23% year-to-date. Combined, MRO and HES make up approximately 2.1% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next best performing sector is the Technology & Communications sector, higher by 2.3%. Among large Technology & Communications stocks, CSRA Inc (Symbol: CSRA) and CenturyLink Inc (Symbol: CTL) are the most notable, showing a gain of 31.1% and 5.5%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Technology & Communications stocks is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLK ), which is up 1.9% in midday trading, and up 1.19% on a year-to-date basis. CSRA Inc, meanwhile, is up 35.34% year-to-date, and CenturyLink Inc is up 1.08% year-to-date. Combined, CSRA and CTL make up approximately 0.4% of the underlying holdings of XLK.
