Monday Sector Leaders: Materials, Energy

The best performing sector as of midday Monday is the Materials sector, up 0.7%. Within that group, Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold (Symbol: FCX) and Mosaic Co (Symbol: MOS) are two large stocks leading the way, showing a gain of 4.0% and 4.0%, respectively. Among the high volume ETFs, one ETF closely following materials stocks is the Materials Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLB), which is up 0.5% on the day, and up 14.09% year-to-date. Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold, meanwhile, is up 37.01% year-to-date, and Mosaic Co is up 83.42% year-to-date. Combined, FCX and MOS make up approximately 7.2% of the underlying holdings of XLB.

The next best performing sector is the Energy sector, up 0.2%. Among large Energy stocks, Halliburton Company (Symbol: HAL) and Schlumberger Ltd (Symbol: SLB) are the most notable, showing a gain of 3.3% and 2.9%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Energy stocks is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE), which is down 0.1% in midday trading, and up 53.44% on a year-to-date basis. Halliburton Company, meanwhile, is up 31.59% year-to-date, and Schlumberger Ltd is up 50.92% year-to-date. Combined, HAL and SLB make up approximately 6.8% of the underlying holdings of XLE.
