Monday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Financial

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Monday, shares of Utilities companies are underperforming other sectors, showing a 0.8% loss. Within that group, SCANA Corp (Symbol: SCG) and Southern Company (Symbol: SO) are two of the day's laggards, showing a loss of 1.6% and 1.3%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs , one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (Symbol: XLU), which is down 0.7% on the day, and down 4.31% year-to-date. SCANA Corp, meanwhile, is down 11.18% year-to-date, and Southern Company , is down 6.55% year-to-date. Combined, SCG and SO make up approximately 7.9% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Financial sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Among large Financial stocks, Macerich Co (Symbol: MAC) and Vornado Realty Trust (Symbol: VNO) are the most notable, showing a loss of 2.4% and 2.0%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Financial stocks is the Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF ( XLF ), which is down 0.1% in midday trading, and up 1.52% on a year-to-date basis. Macerich Co , meanwhile, is down 13.17% year-to-date, and Vornado Realty Trust, is down 10.67% year-to-date.
