Bargain hunters are wise to pay careful attention to insider buying, because although there are many various reasons for an insider to sell a stock, presumably the only reason they would use their hard-earned cash to make a purchase, is that they expect to make money. Today we look at two noteworthy recent insider buys.

At AXIS Capital Holdings ( AXS ), a filing with the SEC revealed that on Wednesday, Director Charles A. Davis purchased 25,000 shares of AXS, at a cost of $49.90 each, for a total investment of $1.25M. AXIS Capital Holdings is trading up about 5.9% on the day Monday.

And also on Wednesday, CEO William F. Carpenter III purchased $999,984 worth of LifePoint Health ( LPNT ), purchasing 21,368 shares at a cost of $46.80 a piece. LifePoint Health is trading down about 1% on the day Monday. Bargain hunters can bag LPNT at a price even lower than Carpenter III did, with shares trading as low as $45.20 in trading on Monday -- that's 3.4% below Carpenter III's purchase price.
