US stocks maintained their positive momentum around midday on Tuesday amid a raft of economic data and as market sentiment improved following a report of efforts by the US and China to restart talks on trade.
In economic news, June personal income increased 0.4%, with consumption rising 0.4% too, both in line with expectations.
The employment cost index rose at a 0.6% clip in Q2, short of the 0.7% expected, following a 0.8% gain in the preceding quarter.
The S&P Case-Shiller home price index rose 0.2% in May as compared with estimates for a 0.3% gain.
The Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index rose 1.4 points to 65.5 in July after the 1.4 point uptick to 64.1 in June.
The Conference Board's consumer confidence bounced 0.3 points to 127.4 in July, slightly ahead of the 127.0 estimate, after dipping 1.7 points to 127.1 in June.
In Europe, equities were also in positive territory following recent developments surrounding the US-China trade spat, while several companies reported earnings, including Swiss banking group Credit Suisse ( CS ) and oil producer British Petroleum ( BP ).
Crude oil is down 1.57% to $69.03 per barrel. Natural gas is up 0.79% to $2.819 per 1 million BTU. Gold is up 0.09% to $1,232.60 an ounce, while silver is up 0.21% to $15.57 an ounce. Copper is up 0.91% to $2.8175 per pound.
Among energy ETFs, the United States Oil Fund is down 1.24% to $14.36, with the United States Natural Gas Fund is up 0.44% to $23.06. Among precious-metal funds, the VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF is up 0.19% to $21.30, while SPDR Gold Shares are up 0.22% to $115.91. The iShares Silver Trust is up 0.48% to $14.65.
