Winners and Losers Financial
- Financial Select Sector SPDRs were up more than 1%; Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) were up 3.4% while its bearish counterpart, the Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares was down 3.5%.
Among tech ETFs , the iShares Dow Jones US Technology ETF (IYW) was up 1.7%; the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) up 1.6%; the iShares S&P North American Tech-Software Index (IGM) up 1.25%; and the iShares S&P North American Tech-Software ETF (IGV) 1%.
Among chip-maker ETFs, the SPDR S&P Semiconductor fund (XSD) was up 1.9% while the iShares PHLX SOX Semiconductor Sector fund (SOXX) wa 1.7% higher. The SPDR S&P International Technology Sector ETF was up 2.49%. The Vanguard Industrials ETF up 0.94%. The iShares Dow Jones US Industrial was up 0.91% and the Industrial Select Sector SPDR up 0.96%. The PowerShares Dynamic Software was 0.76% higher and the SPDR Morgan Stanley Technology up 1.06%.
Energy ETFs were mostly higher, with the Dow Jones U.S. Energy Fund (IYE) rising 1.4% while the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was 1.2% higher.
Crude oil for January deliver was up 95 cents at $88.33 per barrel; December natural gas flat at $3.90 per 1 million BTU; December gold up $20.20 to $1,748.40 an ounce while December silver was up 58 cents to $33.82 an ounce. December copper was up 3 cents at $3.52 per pound.
Among energy ETFs, the U.S. Oil Fund (USO) was up 0.6% and the U.S. Natural Gas fund (UNG) had turned slightly positive.
Among precious-metal funds, the SPDR Gold Shares Trust (GLD) was up 1.2% and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 2.1% higher.
Healthcare ETFs werre higher: The Healthcare SPDR ETF (XLV) up 1.2%; Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) up 1.1%; the iShares Dow Jones US Healthcare (IYH) up 1.1%; and the Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (IBB) up 1.1%.
Consumer ETFs were higher. The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) was up 1.5%; the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) was also up 1.5%; the Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) was up 1.4%.
Among retail ETFs, the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) was up 1.6%; the PowerShares Dynamic Retail fund (PMR) up 1%; Market Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) up 1.2%.
