Metal Futures: Gold Down $20, Climbing Back from Slide Testing $1,700/Oz.

Gold is bouncing back somewhat today, climbing back from a slide throughout the early morning hours testing whether bears could drive the precious metal back under $1,700 an ounce. Twice thwarted in that attempt, contracts have now pared about half of their previous losses.

Silver is up about 1% this morning. Copper also is ahead, adding nearly 7 cents after establishing a beachhead above $4 a pound.
