Mediaset H1 operating profit surges on advertising sales rebound

Italy's top commercial broadcaster Mediaset on Wednesday posted a six-fold rise in first-half operating profit helped by rebounding advertising sales at home and in Spain after last year's virus-driven hit.

MILAN, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Italy's top commercial broadcaster Mediaset MS.MI on Wednesday posted a six-fold rise in first-half operating profit helped by rebounding advertising sales at home and in Spain after last year's virus-driven hit.

The broadcaster controlled by the family of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi reported a first-half group operating profit of 198.7 million euros ($234.57 million) compared with 31.7 million euros last year while net sales rose to 1.39 billion euros from 1.17 billion.

Mediaset said domestic advertising sales grew 31.7% in the first six months of the year and were also on the rise in July and August compared with the same period in both 2020 and 2019.
