U.S. markets are moving up this morning. The S&P 500 is up 0.67% and the Dow is up 0.55%. There were 311,000 initial unemployment claims filed for the week of August 9, just over the 310,000 forecast.
Asian markets were mixed Thursday with Hong Kong markets falling on bad earnings news, while Japan stocks made gains. The Hang Seng was down 0.36% and the Nikkei was up 0.66%.
European stocks are moving up Thursday despite disappointing economic reports from France and Germany. The FTSE is up 0.53%, and the DAX is up 0.51%.
Energy futures are mostly lower today. The West Texas Intermediate crude oil price per barrel is $97.40, down $0.19 and natural gas is unchanged. Metals prices are down Thursday morning. Gold is down $3.50 and platinum is off $1.30. The Dollar is down versus the Euro and the Yen.
EXCO Resources Inc. ( XCO ), Perrigo Company Public Limited Company( PRGO ), and Advance Auto Parts Inc. ( AAP ), are up today. E-Commerce China Dangdang Inc.( DANG ), Vipshop Holdings Limited ( VIPS ) and American Homes 4 Rent ( AMH )are down.
