Investors pulled $1 billion from the SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF Trust ( DIA ) last week, the largest weekly amount in nine months, Bloomberg News said.

The weekly withdrawals were the highest this year, the news service reported today, without saying where it got the information.

Investors were prompted to pull money from exchange-traded funds because of the sharp decline in equity markets, it said, adding that the 6.9% decline in the benchmark Dow Jones Industrial Average last week was its worst in a decade.

SPDR sank 2.3% on the NYSE Arca, retreating on Monday to a 15-month low of $218.90.
