Longs and Shorts See History of Next-Day Widening in Wake of Autodesk's After-Hours Earnings Reports

Autodesk ( ADSK ) is due with its Q2 results after the bell tonight, and analysts polled by Capital IQ are anticipating a profit of $0.28 per share on revenue of $603.4 million.

ADSK is holding a widening pattern after earnings releases. It has widened its after-hours performance the next day following an earnings event in 25 of the last 42 quarters.

Looking deeper into the performance data, ADSK has recorded an earnings-driven extended-hours gain in 23 of the 42 quarters MT Newswires has tracked, and in 14 of those events, 61% of the time, the stock has seen a more aggressive next-day regular session gain. On the downside, ADSK has recorded an earnings-driven extended-hours decline in 19 of the 42 quarters we've followed, widening its downside move 11 times, or 58% of the time, reversing direction six times, and once ending flat with its evening move.
