Chinese industrial production and retail sales came out in the overnight session, along with French and German inflation numbers. Those could affect sentiment toward global equities and commodities.
Initial jobless claims get the ball rolling in the United States at 8:30 a.m. ET. Forecasters anticipate a reading of 280,000, up from 278,000 in the previous week. Natural-gas inventories come out at 10:30 a.m. ET, and crude oil follows half an hour later.
Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen also makes a speech at 12:45 p.m. ET.
Retail giant Wal-Mart Stores announces quarterly results before the opening bell, along with Kohl's, Viacom, and Himax Technologies. Applied Materials, Nordstrom, and Sina follow in the afternoon.
Tomorrow morning's docket includes European gross domestic product, U.S. monthly retail sales, and the University of Michigan's consumer-sentiment index. Tata Motors and Bitauto release earnings as well.
