Japan press reports Abe will delay the sales tax hike

Yomiuri Shimbun (a Japanese newspaper) reports today that PM Abe will delay the sales tax hike, and also rule out a double poll

The sales tax hike is due in April 2017, so if you think the Brexit polling is getting tedious, you ain't seen nothing yet. Still 11 months of this 'will-they-won't-they' on the Japanese sales tax hike to go!

On the election - there will be an election for half of the upper house in July. But, there is a suggestion Abe may call an election for both houses ... that's what the second part of the story is about. A general election is not due until December of 2018 ... so there is plenty of time for speculation about an early call on that still to come also.
