Japanese Finance Minister Aso said he exchanged views on various issues, in a bilateral meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew
- Including the global economy and currency markets
Huh. If the yen strengthens much further (say if it settles under 100 against the USD .... but I'm sorta guessing, maybe it's a big lower) I imagine Aso would like the US to join in on helping Japan out with some sort of 'intervention' - be it jawboning or something more determined. I reckon the topic might have been raised but I don't know how amenable Secretary Lew might have been. Hmmm
- Said policymakers should not be overly pessimistic on the global economy, even though various risks loomed on the outlook
ps. You might see reports around the place that suggest Aso's meeting was somewhat heated ... this headline for example: Japan's Mount Aso volcano erupts, no injuries reported
But, no drama, that's a volcano that shares its name with the fin min, so it wasn't Taro Aso hisself erupting.
