Italy's Renzi says he has no interest in forming a coalition govt if he loses referendum vote

Italian PM out on Reuters 17 Nov

  • would not be willing to seek a deal with other parties to form a temporary or technical govt if he loses referendum
  • electoral law will change whatever the outcome of the vote

Not great surprises or change in Renzi's position here as we head into the keenly awaited 4 Dec vote on constitutional reform

Renzi says the reform will bring much-needed political stability to Italy and has repeatedly pledged to resign if voters reject his proposals to reduce the role of the upper house, the Senate, and rein in the powers of regional governments.

Most recent opinion polls have put the "No" camp ahead and that is helping to undermine the euro.
