The ISL98611 IC is available now in a 2.33x2.61mm2, 30-ball WLCSP package and costs $1.50 thousand units.
The highly integrated single chip solution increases battery life and enhances display quality while lowering the device form factor.
The backlight LED driver functions efficiently to extend smartphone battery life by at least an hour. The display power enhances display quality by improving the uniformity of brightness and color consistency. The two features are so made that they take up the smallest place in the PCB area thus leaving enough space to accommodate the phone's battery.
The chip consists of a boost regulator, LDO and inverting charge pump that enable generation of two output rails at +5V and -5V in one single device.
Smartphones have gradually evolved to become an inseparable part of modern life. As devices get smarter with new features and capabilities, the need for longer battery life and enhanced display quality has increased manifold.
The latest product offers a two in one solution and will therefore enhance Intersil's product pipeline, thereby boosting revenues going forward. The company reported a solid second quarter, with revenues of $147.8 million, up 2% year over year and 5.5% sequentially. Its gross margin was 58.1%, up 290 basis points (bps) year over year and 180 bps sequentially.
Intersil designs and manufactures high-performance analog, mixed-signal and power components focused on power management applications.
