Shares of Interactive Brokers Group, Inc.IBKR rose approximately 3% following the release of its Electronic Brokerage segment's metrics for Sep 2015, which improved on a year-over-year basis. The segment deals with clearance and settling of trades for both individual and institutional clients on a global basis.
Total client DARTs were 662,000, up 15% from Sep 2014, while declining 10% from Aug 2015. Further, total customer accounts were 321,800, up 18% from the prior-year month and 1% from the preceding month.
Interactive Brokers recorded Cleared Client DARTs of 604,000, up 16% from Sep 2014 but falling 9% from Aug 2015. On an annualized basis, Cleared Average DARTs per customer account of 475,000 fell 2% from the year-ago period and 10% from the prior-month level.
Interactive Brokers' total option contracts were 24.7 million, up 2% from the year-ago month but down 21% from the prior month. Future contracts climbed 25% from Sep 2014 but declined 6% from Aug 2015 to 11.6 million.
Interactive Brokers also provides data related to period-end statistics for client equity, credit balances and margin loan balances. For the period ended Sep 2015, client equity was $62.1 billion, up 13% year over year, but declining 4% from the prior-month level.
Moreover, Interactive Brokers recorded client credit balance of $35.0 billion in the reported month, up 18% from Sep 2014 but showing a decrease of 2% from Aug 2015. However, the company's customer margin loan balance of $15.8 billion fell 9% from the prior-year month and 3% from the preceding month.
We expect Interactive Brokers to witness improvement in its monthly metrics, as the company remains well poised to gain from volatility in the equity market. Further, if the current market scenario prevails, strong trading activities will likely boost the company's top-line growth.
