Industrials and Small-Cap: 2 ETFs to Watch on Outsized Volume

In the last trading session, U.S. stocks continued their upward rally for the third consecutive day ahead of Friday's highly awaited jobs report. Energy sector stocks led the rally as oil prices stabilized. Among the top ETFs, investors saw SPY gain 0.39%, DIA move higher 0.27% but QQQ fell slightly by 0.19% on the day.

Two more specialized ETFs are worth noting as both saw trading volume that was far outside of normal. In fact, both these funds experienced volume levels that were more than double their average for the most recent trading session. This could make these ETFs the ones to watch out for in the days ahead to see if this trend of extra-interest continues:

RGI: Volume 3.11 times average

This industrials ETF was in the spotlight as roughly 47,000 shares moved hands yesterday compared to an average of roughly 15,000 shares. RGI rose 0.9% in the session.

The move can be attributed to higher commodities prices, particularly copper and zinc, which can have a big impact on the industrial stocks like what we find in this ETF portfolio. RGI has also gained 11.1% in the past one month and it currently has a Zacks ETF Rank #4 (Sell).

EES:Volume 2.18 times average

This U.S. small-cap ETF was in focus yesterday as almost 53,000 shares moved hands compared to an average of roughly 24,000 shares. We also saw some stock price movement as EES was up about 2.1%.

The movement can largely be attributed to risk-on trade sentiment which probably led investors to consider small-cap stocks. With the U.S. showing signs of recovery amid global market turmoil, these small-cap ETFs with high domestic exposure have been gaining popularity. In the last one-month period, EES was up over 9%. The fund carries a Zacks ETF Rank #3 (Hold).
