This week's calendar brings a mix of events, with housing, retail and the Federal Reserve as significant themes.
Today's only economic report in NAHB's housing market index at 10 a.m. ET. Forecasters expect a reading of 53, in line with July's number. JinkSolar reports earnings before the opening bell and Urban Outfitters follows in the afternoon.
Tomorrow brings consumer prices, housing starts and building permits. Home Depot, TJX, Medtronic and Dick's Sporting Goods announce results in the morning. The afternoon and evening feature Youku Tudou earnings and Japanese trade numbers.
Wednesday's premarket names include Lowe's, PetSmart, Staples, Target, American Eagle Outfitters, JA Solar and E House China Holdings. Minutes from the last Federal Reserve meeting is the big economic event. Hewlett-Packard and L Brands issue numbers after the closing bell.
The following overnight session brings preliminary manufacturing data for China and Europe. Initial jobless claims, existing-home sales, the Philadelphia Fed's regional activity index and Dollar Tree earnings are scheduled for later that morning. Gap, Aeropostale, GameStop, Ross Stores, Salesforce.com and Intuit follow in the afternoon.Thursday also marks the beginning of the Fed's summer meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Foot Locker results come out Friday morning. Fed Chair Janet Yellen and European Central Bank Chief Mario Draghi will speak at Jackson Hole.
