Housing dominates agenda today

Housing is the main theme on today's calendar.

Weekly mortgage applications get the ball rolling at 7 a.m. ET. The FHFA home price index follows at 9 a.m. and existing home sales for March are due at 10 a.m. ET. Economists expect annualized sales of 5.05 million, up from 4.88 million in February. The other two reports aren't tracked by economists, so no estimates are available.

Homebuilder D.R. Horton and building-insulation maker Owens Corning announce quarterly results in the morning as well. Other names in the pre-market include Boeing, Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Bank of New York Mellon, EMC, and Thermo Fisher Scientific.

Facebook, eBay, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, F5 Networks, Skechers USA, and Xilinx report after the closing bell.

Preliminary manufacturing data from China is due tonight, followed early tomorrow by similar European numbers. Together, they could affect commodity prices and currencies.

Other numbers due tomorrow include initial jobless claims and new home sales. General Motors, Procter & Gamble, Eli Lilly, PepsiCo, Union Pacific, Danager, AbbVie, Southwest Airlines, United Continental, and 3M are some of the major companies announcing results in the premarket. Microsoft, Google, Juniper Networks, Pandora Media, Starbucks, and Altera follow after the closing bell.
