Indigenous technologies from industrial goods manufacturer Honeywell International Inc.HON recently featured on the list of 100 best possible ways to reduce pollution in the aviation industry. The list was prepared by the Air Transport Action Group for the Aviation Climate Solutions report and was released at the Global Sustainable Aviation Summit in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Honeywell technologies that featured in the report include SmartPath Ground-Based Augmentation System (GBAS) and EGTS electric taxiing system. Various simulative studies have indicated that these innovative technologies can facilitate the aviation industry to achieve its goal of reducing CO2 emissions to half of the 2005-level by 2050.

The SmartPath GBAS system is widely utilized for precision navigation in the approach and landing phases of a flight. Using GPS signal, the technology helps to reduce operating costs through meticulous navigation guidance, decreases air traffic noise and trims down weather-related delays. All these measures subsequently lead to lesser emissions by operating flights.

The EGTS electric taxiing system enables aircraft to cut down their fuel consumption by avoiding the main engines for taxiing and eliminate up to 61% of CO2 and up to 51% of NO2 emissions during taxi operations. The reductions in emission standards could be achieved by taxiing autonomously by using the electrical power system of an aircraft. The technology could also help to improve on-time departure and allow passengers to deplane faster due to smoother ground-handling operations.

Despite modest GDP growth in most regions across the globe in 2015, Honeywell remains focused to deliver high organic growth, strong margin expansion, and double-digit earnings growth in the current year. We are encouraged by management's continued efforts to drive organic growth while expanding its business in new geographical regions.

Honeywell is a global diversified technology and manufacturing company with a wide range of aerospace products and services, control, sensing and security technologies for buildings, homes and industry, turbochargers, automotive products, specialty chemicals, electronic and advanced materials, process technology for refining and petrochemicals, and energy efficient products and solutions for homes, business and transportation.

Honeywell currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other stocks that look promising in the industry and are worth a look include Danaher Corp. DHR , Graham Corporation GHM , and Luxfer Holdings PLC LXFR , each carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
