Health-care shares were generally higher in pre-market trade Wednesday.

In health-care stocks news,Redhill Biopharma ( RDHL ) said it has received a $2 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to support its phase 2 study of Yeliva for refractory or relapsed multiple myeloma, to be initiated by RedHill at Duke University Medical Center by the end of 2015.

Shares in the company were unchanged at $13.65 pre-bell. Over the past 52 weeks, the company has traded between $6.89 and $22.22.

Asterias Biotherapeutics ( AST ) said results from preclinical studies support the safety of its AST-OPC1 as treatment of spinal cord injury.
