Health Care Sector Update for 08/03/2015: BVXV,LXRX,TRIV

Health care stocks were moderately higher today, with the NYSE Health Care Sector Index adding about 0.3% and shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 also were up 0.3% as a group.

In company news, BiondVax Pharmaceuticals Ltd. ( BVXV ) has turned lower in Monday trading, giving back large gains that followed the drugmaker today reporting follow-up data for its BVX-005 drug candidate, saying the universal flue vaccine was also now providing study participants with increased immunogencity against future strains that did not exist three years ago at the start of the trial.

In particular, the company said BVX-005 worked well to prevent flu caused by the H3N2 virus strain that emerged earlier this year. During follow-up of participants in the 2012 trial, more than half of the patients in the experimental group showed immunity to H3N2 compared with just 10% in the control group.

BVXV shares recebtkt were down about 1% at $4.21 each, matching its session low after earlier climbing as much as 14% earlier today to a high of $4.85 a share.

In other sector news,

(+) LXRX, (+57.8%) Said its telotristat etiprate experimental treatment for carcinoid syndrome patients with metastatic neuroendocrine tumor met its primary endpoint of reducing daily bowel movements compared to cancer patients receiving the current standard of care.

(-) TRIV, (-12.1%) Tops more than 100 patients enrolled in new trial of its Ovation Abdominal Stent Graft platform testing least invasive fast-track endovascular aortic repair.
