Top Health Care Stocks
Health care stocks were maintaining moderate gains Wednesday, with the NYSE Health Care Index adding about 0.5% while shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were up over 0.7% as a group.
In company news, Brookdale Senior Living ( BKD ) was surging Wednesday, rising over 11% to top out today at $15.66 a share following reports that Zhonghong Zhuoye Group was nearing a deal to acquire the senior-living communities company.
A deal could eventually fetch more than $4 billion and may be announced as soon as later this week, a person involved in the talks told the Financial Times. Reuters on Tuesday said the Chinese real estate and leisure group - which last month bought a significant equity stake in SeaWorld Entertainment ( SEAS ) - already has offered around $3 billion for Brookdale.
