Health care shares were mostly weaker at the close of regular trading Thursday.
In health care stocks news, Aegerion Pharmaceuticals ( AEGR ) said it has reached preliminary agreements to settle an ongoing probe by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission over sales activities and disclosures related to JUXTAPID capsules.
Under the accord, the company will pay $40 million, payable over five years. It will pay $3 million upon finalization of the settlement, approximately $3.7 million per year, payable quarterly, for three years following finalization of the settlement, and approximately $13 million per year, payable quarterly, in years four and five following finalization of the settlement.
Shares closed at $1.91 after declining some 17% in regular session, with a 52-week range of $1.81 - $21.21.
