Healthcare stocks were broadly higher, with the NYSE Healthcare Sector Index adding almost 0.7% and the S&P Healthcare Index climbing 0.8%.

In company news, EnteroMedics Inc. ( ETRM ) bounced sharply higher Tuesday after the medical device company said it certified 15 medical centers and 19 doctors were trained to implant and administer its VBloc neuroblock therapy during the first three months of the year.

The company hopes to have at least 20 to 25 therapy centers and physicians during 2015. VBloc is used to treat obesity, metabolic diseases and other gastrointestinal disorders and was cleared for U.S. sales in January.

ETRM shares were up almost 18% at $1.03 each, just 2 cents under their session high. The stock has traded within a 52-week range of 85 cents to $2.17 a share, over the past 12 months through Monday's close.
