Health care stocks mostly edged higher in late trade, including a more than 0.1% increase for the NYSE Health Care Index. Also, shares of health care companies in the S&P 500 were up 0.4% as a group while the Nasdaq Biotechnology index was rising more than 0.1% today.

Among health care stocks moving on news:

Medifast ( MED ) rose more than 30% after it reported late Tuesday Q4 results that topped analysts' estimates and issued guidance for Q1 and fiscal year 2018 above Street forecasts

In other sector news,

(+) BioTime ( BTX ) rose 1.5% after it said the independent Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) has approved the initiation of the fourth cohort for the ongoing OpRegen clinical trial.

(-) Sellas Life Sciences ( SLS ) fell 16% after it said it entered into a definitive securities purchase agreement to issue shares of its convertible preferred stock and warrants to purchase shares of its common stock in a private placement transaction to a select group of institutional investors.
