Commodities prices on a headline basis do not look like they have come down much off their highs. If anything, they have surged onward, so why are the mining stocks suffering? Take a look at the CRB ( quote ) index, which tracks a broad commodity basket. Despite some grousing in the market press, there is not exactly a lot of carnage here, except in copper: But look at the producer equities, where there has been significant damage to a lot of the once high-flying bellwethers in the sector: FCX ( quote ), TCK ( quote ), X ( quote ), VALE ( quote ). Today's trade will not be easy either.
