Have Insiders Been Buying Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:BCLI) Shares This Year?

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So we'll take a look at whether insiders have been buying or selling shares in Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:BCLI).

What Is Insider Selling?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions. But logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise'.

Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Executive VP & COO David Setboun for US$65k worth of shares, at about US$12.95 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$3.62. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock when an insider has bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price. David Setboun was the only individual insider to buy during the last year.

Insider Ownership

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. From our data, it seems that Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics insiders own 5.5% of the company, worth about US$7.3m. But they may have an indirect interest through a corporate structure that we haven't picked up on. Whilst better than nothing, we're not overly impressed by these holdings.
