Hasbro to Reportedly Add 4 Films to the Transformers Series

Hasbro Inc. 's HAS Los Angeles based wholly owned subsidiary - Hasbro Studios - has plans for four more "Transformers" films over the next 10 years, according to media reports. The films will be made in collaboration with media conglomerate, Viacom, Inc.'s VIAB Paramount Pictures.

The announcement regarding the next four films was reportedly made by Stephen Davis, president of Hasbro Studios, during a keynote speech at the MIP Junior Conference 2015 in Cannes, France.

The Transformers franchise has been an extremely lucrative one for Hasbro, ever since the first film was released in 2007, especially in international markets. In fact, the last film, released in 2014 - Transformers: Age of Extinction - reportedly earned approximately $858 million internationally, accounting for around 77% of the film's worldwide income.

In recent times, toys by themselves seem obsolete, and needs a story behind them to appear relevant to kids. With the historical success of the Transformers franchise and plans for more films, Hasbro will enhance brand loyalty and will gradually build up interest for the next Transformers movie and merchandise related to it.

In fact, the commercial success of the Transformers series helped Hasbro and Paramount to team up with multiple global promotional companies to promote the films through an array of retail, consumer as well as digital products. These partnerships have been immensely successful for Hasbro.

With children's shift toward video games and personal electronic devices, toys and video games related to popular movie and gaming franchisees are doing well. Thus toymakers like Hasbro are looking to ink deals with popular movie franchisees. Hasbro has also cashed in on the global demand for the Transformers franchise, by launching products into regions with low market penetration.

Hasbro currently has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
