The GOP's Tax Plans Look Dead in the Water

(Washington)

This year started with a real bang regarding Trump and the GOP's tax plans. However, that momentum has now fizzled despite the fact that investors are fervently hoping for tax cuts which may continue to boost markets. The Republicans had big ideas for cuts and changes-like the import tax-all of which have faded as the difficult reality of finding other sources of revenue dominates the politics of forcing through changes. Republicans are facing strong internal divisions over where and how taxes should be cut, and Democrats are opposed to the one major point the GOP has consensus on-the elimination of deductions for state and local taxes.

FINSUM : We still think a tax cut will be delivered, but we feel investors should have much lower expectations than they did a few months ago.
